Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A) is an evidence-based, structured therapeutic program designed to help teens and their families build the skills necessary to manage overwhelming emotions, reduce impulsive and self-destructive behaviors, manage mood difficulties, and improve relationships. DBT was originally developed to treat adults with Borderline Personality Disorder; however, in the decades since, the treatment has demonstrated effectiveness across many diagnoses and across the lifespan. The ultimate goal of DBT is to help a participant “build a life worth living” by increasing effective behaviors and decreasing problem behaviors. The program at EBP strives to closely adhere to DBT-A as designed by the treatment developers, with the goal of providing high-quality, “Comprehensive DBT” to improve outcomes for teens and their families. Comprehensive DBT includes individual and family sessions, group skills training, phone coaching, and provider participation on a formal DBT Consultation Team.
